Types of Hair Extensions
There are many different methods for applying hair extensions.
Micro rings are applied without using any heat, chemicals of glue. This is a popular method for people wearing extensions for the first time. It uses a tiny silicone ring that is attached to the extension, and the client’s hair gets pulled through the ring. The ring is pinched closed to prevent it from moving. Removal of this type of extension is simple and just involved using special micro ring removal pliers to open the ring again and allow it to be pulled out.
Nano rings are a new method of applying extensions that involves using very tiny rings,. The process is similar to micro rings, but the rings are 90% smaller than micro rings.
Micro rings for weft application is done the same way as micro rings with extensions. Wefts are easy to apply and remove, making them a more cost-effective option for many clients.
Pre-bonded hot fusion extensions are pre-bonded U tip hair that is applied using a keratin nail tip that is melted using a specialized heat connector clamp. It is then wrapped around the client’s hair, creating a very strong bond. Removal involves application of special solution. The bond must be crushed, and the extension can then be pulled out.
Ultrasonic cold fusion extensions are becoming very popular and are not offered by many salons, which can help make you stand out once you can offer this application method. Starting with U tip hair extensions, an ultrasonic cold fusion machine works to soften the bonds in the U tip. It uses ultrasonic pulses instead of heat to melt the bond, and then is wrapped around the client’s hair. To seal, an ultrasonic connector can reform the bond for a secure hold.
Shrink tubes extensions are done using the same type of hair as the micro ring method that uses “shrinkies” instead of rings. Shrinkies are small, keratin-lined tubes that the client’s hair gets pulled through. Then the extension gets put in the tube, along with the natural hair. Heat is applied and causes the tube to shrink and fuse to both the client’s hair and the extension. Removal is the same process as with pre-bonded hot fusion.
